The Cabildo estimates that some 3,000 tourists will not be able to leave Lanzarote until the state of alarm decreed by the Government ends. "No one will be left on the street," assured the Tourism Councilor, Ángel Vázquez, this Wednesday, who stated that they would be relocated to specific hotels that would remain open. However, after the new government decree ordering the closure to the public of tourist accommodation establishments within seven days, it must now be studied how these tourists can be relocated.

As Vázquez specified, on the morning of this Wednesday there were still about 20,000 tourists left to leave the island, although throughout the day "many departures" were expected, especially to the United Kingdom.

Even so, according to the data handled by the institution, it was expected that some 3,000 tourists would not be able to return to their places of origin. However, this figure could be even higher, since the councilor acknowledged that they do not control the data of tourists who may be in vacation homes.

"No one is going to be left stranded on the street," the Tourism Councilor insisted, explaining that, for this, they are working with the island's hotel association, in order to have some hotels available for people who cannot travel. "The association confirms to me that there would be no problem," Ángel Vázquez pointed out. "Now we have to see which hotels, how they would be accommodated and how many people would remain," he added.

Of course, the Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo insisted that "we must comply" with the Government's measures. "What we have to do is comply with the decree and, if there are people who cannot travel, what we have to do is confine ourselves, whether in a hotel or at home, because the health alarm is above everything else," he reiterated.

From the Cabildo it was announced that the president had convened the Insular Association of Hotel and Apartment Businessmen of Lanzarote (Asolan) for this Friday for a telematic meeting to address the relocation of those tourists who still remain on the island, before the closure of accommodation establishments.
