The Environment Councilor of the Teguise City Council has asked the population of La Graciosa, as well as vacationers, for their participation and collaboration in this initiative carried out by the Vice-Ministry of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, together with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council.

Those people who are willing to collaborate as volunteers should go on Saturday the 21st to the Órzola Pier at 10:00 a.m., from where they will be transferred to La Graciosa to begin the environmental day.

In addition to the cleaning, tents and information and dissemination points will be installed at the Caleta de Sebo pier to explain the importance of controlling the species "diadema antillarum", better known as the lime urchin, diadema or long-spined urchin.

This marine animal is a danger to biodiversity, as it progressively reduces the algae on the seabed, which leads to a reduction in the underwater landscape and an increase in white patches. Likewise, the existence of this animal means that there are fewer and fewer fish.
