Under the title "Pollution & Solution" Arenas Internacional School will celebrate until March 18, the twenty-third edition of its Olympics, inspired this time in the respect for Nature and environmental education, intrinsic values in the educational project of the school. Under this title Arenas Internacional School celebrates until March 18 its XXIII Olympics.

One of the most anticipated activities by the educational community, whose starting gun was fired this Saturday, March 10, with the opening ceremony that was again a success, both for the large audience and for the choreography and scenery, as well as for the colorful costumes created again by the designer Manuel Camejo and made by parents, teachers and students of the school.

A fantastic staging in which all the students of Arenas Internacional School have participated, from 1 year old Infant to Baccalaureate, together with a representation of students from Arenas School, which once again has managed to start the applause of the attendees.

Thus, the sports facilities of Arenas Internacional School became a large stage with novel elements such as large puppets representing elements of the island's Nature such as jellyfish, Morenas, Canary palm trees or chimneys, among others, the work of artists Connor Quill and Jesse Paul Wright, who accompanied the staging of a particular story of the movie Frozen in which two sisters born to take care of Nature run along opposite paths: one taking care of it and another polluting the Earth, having to reflect and change their attitude because the survival of the animal, plant and human species of the Planet is at stake. Without a doubt, a show where through gymnastics, dance, and dramatization of the different choreographies offered, a small tribute was made to Nature, to the 600 years of history of Teguise and to the artist César Manrique who contributed with his work to the care of the environment and the sustainable landscape of Lanzarote.

The opening ceremony, which was welcomed by the students in Spanish, English, German and Chinese, languages ​​that are taught at the School, was attended by the General Director of Arenas School, Arenas Atlántico and Arenas Internacional Alberto Rodríguez, the Councilor for Education of the City Council of Teguise Francisco Javier Díaz, the Insular Director of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands Mario Pérez; the Director of Arenas Internacional School Delfina Rodríguez, the Town Crier of this edition Ana Isabel Gopar Márquez, the Manager of Arenas Internacional School Jaime Rodríguez and the Counselor of Arenas Schools, Arenas Atlántico and Arenas Internacional Bernardo Rodríguez.

The presentation was given by Delfina Rodríguez who stressed that "the Olympics is an interdisciplinary project in which the entire educational community participates. It works on technical and social skills that students will need in their lives and that will be part of the education of each of them".

She also recalled that during this opening ceremony "the students, who are wearing costumes in which more than 50% recycled material has been used, are going to give us a lesson in eco social education. Aware of the fragility of our Planet and that climate change is a fact that, according to experts, does not seem to have a turning back? We must be prepared to accept it, to adapt to it and to face it as a new reality. The key is in education? And our students have to be prepared. In achieving this educational goal, the School has committed to obtaining the ISO 14.001/2.015 Environment certification that was granted to us yesterday by AENOR". 

For her part, the town crier Ana Isabel Gopar, mother of students of the center, said during her speech that "it is an honor for me to speak on behalf of the families of the School, to whom I ask to continue to be involved in the education of their children and feeling proud to be part of this educational community? To all of you, thank you for helping me feel that I am part of a group that invests effort, desire and enthusiasm in this long-term education project of our children".

After her words, the opening show began with the parade of the Olympic flag through the sports facilities by the students of 2nd of National and International Baccalaureate.

The opening gala ended with the arrival of the Olympic torch carried by the students of 2nd of ESO and the lighting of the cauldron, an honor that this year fell on the student Bo Hao Jin.

Fun and sports activities


 

The opening ceremony precedes a week where the different sports disciplines are protagonists. The traditional Olympics of Arenas Internacional School values ​​the integral education of students in which sport and physical education play a fundamental role.

The program starts on Monday, March 12 and ends on the 18th with the 2nd Aqua & Sports Center Island Qualifying Paddle Tournament (March 17 and 18). A week in which you can enjoy multiple activities such as Waterbasket, Waterpolo, V Judo Tournament of Arenas Internacional School, friendly futsal matches, sack races, solidarity race of Infant and Primary students, marbles competition, aquagym?, among others.
