"The coastal tradition, a hallmark of what was once Europe's first sardine port, will become the protagonist of the Arrecife Carnival 2015", the city's mayor, Manuel Fajardo Feo, revealed this Tuesday at a press conference.
According to the mayor, "in the search for our uniqueness, just as Tenerife is committed to its tropical Carnival or La Palma does with its Indian celebration, this government group has decided to value the memory of the arrival of the fishermen for the festivities, which was an added reason for joy in all the homes of the city." Along these lines, the Councilor for Festivities, Víctor Sanginés, pointed out the incorporation into the program of activities of the port Carnival in this mandate, "in homage to the traditional day carnivals."
The Arrecife City Council also presented the poster announcing the capital's Carnival, which will be held between February 7 and 18 of next year. The poster is the work of the Arrecife designer Agustín de Páiz "Gringa". De Páiz, trained at the Pancho Lasso School of Arts and Crafts, has created a collage of images under the title "From Muñique to the Port", which in his words "brings together symbols of the capital's tradition and modernity, with the bride and groom of Mojón being the central axis of the poster, inviting people from all over the island to come to Arrecife".
For their part, from the Consistory they point out that "his artistic influence is impregnated with pop art and abstract expressionism, materializing his creation in various individual and collective exhibitions, in graphic design and window dressing".
