One more year the neighbors of La Villa de Teguise met in the municipal tent, decorated for the occasion with Canarian motifs, to celebrate the Day of the Canary Islands in a great festive atmosphere. There was no shortage of flags, tables covered with traditional checkered tablecloths, very common in island homes, nor was there a shortage of products for a good Canarian enyesque such as pella de gofio amasado, roscas de bizcocho, cheese, pejines, and traditional pastries such as mimos, mantecados and roscos. All washed down with the best wines of Lanzarote as well as water and soft drinks.
And for such a special night, Canarian music and dances were the protagonists, on this occasion very well represented by the groups of the municipality such as the parrandas of Teseguite and Los Valles. They were in charge with their songs that the attending public left their seats and flooded the tent track to mark some good dances with friends and family. Also present were the Guanapay and Guagime folk groups that surprised the public with their songs and traditional dances with their impeccable clothing as required by such a special occasion. Their performances were highly applauded where there was no shortage of seguidillas, isas, folias and sorondongos.
Oswaldo Betancort, mayor of Teguise, and the councilors were very satisfied with the response of the public who came very well dressed in Canarian clothes and participating with great animation singing and dancing until well into the first hours of the Day of the Canary Islands.
