The businessman from Puerto del Carmen Alex Müller passed away this Saturday, October 28 at the age of 76 in Mácher.
Müller ran the mythical Waikiki located in the Atlántico Shopping Center and was one of the most important establishments in Lanzarote, a mandatory stop not only for the people of Lanzarote but for all the tourists and celebrities who landed in Lanzarote such as Sara Montiel, Sabina or Antonio Resines. It was inaugurated on November 18, 1981 and closed its doors in 2007.
The importance of this hotel establishment is reflected by Juan Cruz in the book 'The Volcano of Tourism', "Alex Müller together with his partner Joseph Hassan put into operation the legendary Wiakiki cocktail terrace. This place was a successful bet according to the leisure needs of Lanzarote that required at that time. Previously, the main tourist areas of Spain had been visited to see how similar places worked. They got jugs and other accessories of Hawaiian atmosphere. Waikiki created a trend and marked an era in the eighties, as a destination for all the people who went out on weekends to have dinner and then enjoyed the cocktails of this mythical establishment, which offered good music and the best atmosphere..."
Alexander Müller leaves behind his wife, María del Carmen Acosta Aparicio, two sons, Patrick and Sandro, political children Estela Medina, Patricia Serrano, Simón, Melany and Roberto Hernández and four grandchildren, Alejandro, Óscar, Anahí, Sandro and Abril.
The wake is in the municipal of Tías and at 4:30 p.m. the burial will take place in the Tías cemetery.
