World Oceans Day was celebrated this Wednesday in a very special way in Puerto Calero. On the one hand, the mayor of Yaiza, Oscar Noda, the councilor for Local Development and Beaches, Fátima Viñoly, and the operations director of Calero Marinas, Constante Lorenzo, raised the twenty-seventh Blue Flag received by Puerto Calero "for its work in raising awareness and disseminating environmental care, the cleanliness of its waters and the services and safety offered by its facilities, among many other requirements demanded by this award".

As a second act, the I Puerto Calero Sustainable Cuisine Contest was held, within the framework of the activities programmed for Eco Action Week. Up to seven restaurants participated: Coentro, Ropa Vieja, Natural Nada Más, Minato, La Taberna del Puerto, Pelicano and Oceana by Secrets Lanzarote.

The chefs' proposals were based on highlighting the value of local products and the use of leftover cuisine. Thus, João Faraco, from Coentro, presented a "fritter of jarea and lemon aioli"; Héctor García, from the Ropa Vieja restaurant, opted for a "rabbit mole"; and from Natural Nada Más, Moisés Rodríguez presented his "Carpaccio of scarlet shrimp from La Santa, cauliflower cream and lemon velouté".

For his part, Simón Pazo from Minato, within his line of Japanese cuisine, defended his "bocinegro in three formats". On behalf of the Taberna del Puerto, David Hidalgo presented a "rice texture with La Santa flavor", while the Pelícano restaurant made a reinterpretation of a classic of English cuisine with a "Manrique Fish and Chips"; while the Oceana by Secrets Lanzarote, represented by chef Emilio López, presented a "ceviche on a sea of salmorejo".

The jury, composed of Óscar Noda, Rubén Arca, Sergio Cabrera and the two winners of the Instagram contest "Judge for a Day": Ianire Vidorpeta and Begoña Frahija, listened carefully to the explanations of each of the chefs and had a difficult decision. In fact, the score was very tight, finally leaning towards the proposal of the restaurant La Taberna del Puerto.

In the same act, the winners of "Judge for a day" received their prizes: a night at the five-star Secret Lanzarote hotel and a voucher to dine at any of the restaurants participating in this I Sustainable Cuisine Contest.

The Eco Action Week continues until Saturday with activities including the introductory underwater photography workshop, the open days of the Código Cero Sports Club and the coastal cleanup. All the information is available in the news section of www.puertocalero.com.
