Polo Ortí Trio will bring jazz music to the CIC El Almacén in Arrecife

Seeing and hearing one of the Canarian musicians who has accumulated the widest and best curriculum in his years of professional career will be possible next Friday, May 9. This is the pianist Polo Ortí and his band 'Polo Ortí Trío', who will perform on the stage of the Cine Buñuel of the CIC El Almacén to present their new album, just released, "Suite de la amistad". Polo Ortí Trío is composed of Polo Ortí on piano, Luismo Valladares on bass and Juanjo Ortí on drums.

'Polo Ortí Trío' makes jazz, although it also elaborates a music that in many cases is difficult to classify in a certain style. This is, without a doubt, that personal and singular character that Ortí manages to impregnate in many of his compositions and that has made him worthy of numerous praises from important North American jazz musicians such as Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Lyle Mays, among others.

The performance is organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Canarias Cultura en Red. Tickets, at the sale price of 10 euros, can now be purchased at the Centro Insular de Cultura El Almacén.

Three high-level musicians

The artistic career of Polo Ortí is well known by jazz lovers. With a Higher Degree in Piano after studying music at the higher conservatories of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Madrid and Valencia, Ortí travels to the USA to study at Berklee College of Music (Boston), a city where he also receives specialized composition and piano classes from Lyle Mays (keyboardist of Pat Metheny Group). In this country, Polo performs in jazz venues as well as a tour of the Nordic countries with his band 'Coco'. Throughout his musical career, Ortí has received a large number of awards for both his compositions and his interpretations. In 1991, vibraphonist Gary Burton includes three themes by the Tenerife musician on the album "Reunion" (GRP, 1990) together with guitarist Pat Metheny, reaching the top positions on the North American Billboard list.

In Spain, Ortí records his first CD "Improvisaciones" (1993) with the collaboration of SOCAEM and in 1997, the actor Gabino Diego produces a record work "Polo". In 2000 he recorded "Polo Ortí Group Live" and at this moment his new work "Suite de la amistad" has just been released, a double CD and DVD that features the participation of Polo Ortí Quartet, Gary Burton, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST), Jorge Pardo and Joan Albert Amargós. Currently, Polo lives in Tenerife, combining composition work and performances with the Jazz Language classes he teaches at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Juanjo Ortí is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in drums from Berklee College of Music (1996). He has been part of a multitude of groups and has collaborated with countless musicians in different projects (Polo Ortí Trío/Group, Gary Burton, Jorge Pardo, Víctor Merlo, Roque Baños, Fernando Ortí, Kike Perdomo, Midi Domestico, Ceda el Paso, Blue, Jazzmimadre, Ximo Tebar, Canaima, Anne Peters, Daniel Flors Group Therapy, Sophie Duner, among others.) and has shared the stage with artists such as Yellow Jackets, Herbie Hancock, Tete Montoliú, Eric Marienthal Band, Michel Camilo, among others. His teaching activity has led him to give seminars in Marseille (France) where he has also toured and recorded a CD with the French group Canaima. Since 1998 he has lived between Tenerife and Madrid.

Luismo Valladares is a young and brilliant musician who has finished studies of bass and double bass at the ESMUC and the Taller de Música de Barcelona, city where he also receives electric bass classes with Gary Willis. Luismo also studies double bass with Mario Rossy. His musical activity unfolds both in jazz and in fusions and musical projects of almost all kinds. He has played with Gary Willis, Bob Mintzer, Bob Sands, Crish Kase, Jorge Pardo, Chano Domínguez, Albert Bover, Kike Perdomo and Ramón Díaz, among others, and has participated in countless national and international festivals and music shows inside and outside our borders.
