The festivity of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is approaching and all the island's seaside enclaves pay tribute to their virgin. Like the neighborhood of Valterra, Teguise or La Graciosa, the southern town of Playa Blanca also celebrates its festivities in honor of the patron saint of sailors.
The festival committee, in collaboration with the Yaiza City Council, through its Department of Festivities, has created an intense program for all audiences, from children's games for the little ones to talks, parties or sports competitions for adults. The highlight of these festivities is the performance of Instinto Cómico, the Canarian humor company that stars in the program "En clave de Já" on Canarian Television. This night full of good island humor will take place on the 17th from 9:30 p.m.
Other relevant events within the Playa Blanca festival program are the 4th Edition of the 24 hours of swimming, which will start on July 17 at 6:00 p.m.; the traditional dessert contest, the V Youth Night which will feature performances by the Ballet Juvenil Dance Pop, the singers Junior, Jony, Cristian and Miriam, and two dance couples from the municipality.
Religious events will also be important in these festivities. One of the most emotional events will take place on the 18th, the maritime procession, which will take place after the celebration of the Eucharist at 7:00 p.m. For all those who plan to follow the virgin by boat, safety regulations have been established to prevent any incidents that may occur. These measures include the prohibition of using pyrotechnics and the priority of fishing boats over sports boats.
Among the Christian events, there is also the Land Procession that will take place on July 16, the day of Nuestra Señora del Carmen through the streets of the town after the celebration of the Eucharist at 7:00 p.m.
