The Pardela Gala held last Saturday at the El Golfo festivities had an unexpected participant, the former president of the Cabildo and current spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Corporation, Pedro San Ginés, who decided to register and debut at this event with the name of miss "Teta-rroy".
"It was a surprise. We didn't know he was going to present himself. Nobody knows who is going to present themselves until the last moment. He signed up as just another person, as an ordinary person," César Rijo, president of the Festival Committee, told La Voz, confirming that it is the first time that a politician has participated in this gala, in which the participants are men dressed as women in a parody and with a jury that rewards "imperfection".
In the case of San Ginés, he opted for a pink wig, pronounced heels and a tight dress that revealed his underwear while parading to the rhythm of the music on the catwalk. "He didn't go unnoticed," says the president of the Festival Committee, who believes that once he took the stage, the neighbors realized that it was the former president of the Cabildo.
"Everyone knows what Pedro is like from what they see in the media and I think he enjoyed it like one more. And nobody knew until the last minute. Anyway, I think that he said that people had been telling him for years why he didn't participate," he added.
The gala featured 25 participants - almost all the other "local residents", according to the organizers - and three prizes were awarded, although none of them went to San Ginés. The winners were 'Galana Rabiosa' as Miss Pardela 2019, 'Perra Sata del Paso' as Miss Simpatía and 'Petronela la Grande' as Miss Elegancia.
