THEY DEMAND MORE CLASSROOMS FOR EACH LEVEL TO AVOID "OVERCROWDING"

Parents of CEIP Ajei of San Bartolomé complain about the "imposition" of Education to implement mixed classrooms

They affirm that the Ministry has authorized "several mixed groups" for the next academic year and ask it to "reconsider" it, because they consider that with this "a good quality of education could not be guaranteed"

Parents of the students of CEIP Ajei of San Bartolomé have filed a complaint with the general director of Centers and Educational Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands after the center has informed them that "the Ministry of Education has authorized, for the 2019/2020 academic year, several mixed groups." A measure that they describe as "imposition" and to which they oppose, because they consider that "a good quality of education could not be guaranteed."

"Mixed classes would not be a problem with small groups, it could even be interesting but, as we reiterate, in small groups and not as numerous as it would be in this case, where the Ministry does not guarantee us minimum quality standards," the parents state in their writing, who consider that the best option for their children to learn "is not the continuous change and much less the mixed classroom that it intends to impose."

"Nor has this Ministry taken into account that, with this system, introverted boys and girls will again have difficulty adapting, reintegrating into a new group, leading to confusion, feeling lost, to frustration; frustration that will undermine their academic performance," the parents continue, who affirm that the groups that were already formed "work very well" and, therefore, affirm that they do not understand "why change something that works."

They ask that it be reconsidered and demand more classrooms for each level

"Our sons and daughters have already suffered the consequences of the educational system, as has the center," add the parents, who consider that the "new change" would mean for their children "a comparative grievance with respect to those who were not in the mixed class."

Likewise, they point out that "there are difficulties in guaranteeing the schooling of the center's own students with the authorized groups, since there are several students with Specific Educational Support Needs (ASD, ADHD, TGC) and that "the Ministry has not taken into account when establishing these groups, leading to the fact that, with such high ratios and the existence of these mixed groups, the desired objectives are not achieved."

"We are aware that the educational center has informed you of the need to expand the number of units to guarantee success in the teaching-learning process of the students and, especially, of the NEAE students," the parents point out in this regard, who for all this ask Education to "reconsider the issue of the mixed classroom" and think "for the good" of their children, considering their position "and that of the center" of "establishing more classrooms for each educational level, thus avoiding overcrowding and a new change."
