The Mararía association, which this Monday received the Meninas 2019 award from the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, has demanded "firm financial support" against gender violence in Lanzarote.
In this sense, the group considers it essential that the Administration support the work "of organizations that with volunteering are socially involved to eradicate inequality and gender violence", highlighting that Mararía has "an experience endorsed by 25 years of history".
"The organizations that make up the Third sector, dedicated to educating, caring for and guaranteeing the social rights of the most vulnerable people, must have aid according to the needs, which are many. And in the field of mistreatment, of extreme gravity," said its president, Nieves Rosa Hernández.
Assessment of the events of the International Day against Gender Violence
Mararía has highly valued the development of the events held on the occasion of November 25, world day for the eradication of gender-based violence. "The awareness table and the annual concentration in front of the old Cabildo, convened by the entities that make up the Forum against Gender Violence, aroused the interest and support of a large number of people," he highlights.
The central act, the tour with banners through Calle Real and the reading of the names of the women murdered by their partners or ex-partners, had a prominent participation this year, according to the association. The exhibition of a flashmob for equality by students from different secondary schools; the interpretation of a song about the women of Lanzarote, composed by teachers from the IES Zerolo and the reading of a text by Roy Galán by the journalist Javi Rodríguez joined the usual manifestos of feminist groups.
In addition, on this occasion, the Círculo Violeta group made a public reflection on the role that public institutions should play.
