The Governing Council of the Canary Islands has agreed this Thursday to extend alert level 4 in Lanzarote for at least one more week. And it is that although in recent days most of the indicators on the island have improved slightly, they are still well above the levels established to reduce the alert level.
For the moment, Lanzarote has already been on alert 4 for two weeks, which implies, among other things, bringing the curfew forward to 10 p.m. and the closure of hotels and all non-essential shops at 6 p.m. Now, the situation on the island will be reviewed weekly, at the meeting held every Thursday by the Governing Council.
"We are still at worrying levels. Although the figures have decreased, they are very high," said the Government spokesperson, Julio Pérez, referring to the situation in both Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. In the case of Gran Canaria, it is at alert level 3 and will remain so for another week, since the situation of any island has not been modified this Thursday. Thus, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and El Hierro will continue at level 2 and La Palma and La Gomera at level 1.
These levels will be maintained "in principle" until February 11, when they will be reviewed again. "The levels remain the same, although the situation is slightly better," insisted Julio Pérez, who once again "reiterated the call for restrictions to be complied with" and the incidence of the coronavirus can be reduced, especially on the most affected islands.
