Lanzarote has registered seven new Covid outbreaks in the last week, according to the Ministry of Health. Of these, a family outbreak with eleven affected and an educational outbreak, with family ramifications, with five infected, stand out.

In the Canary Islands as a whole, 121 new outbreaks have been registered with 786 associated cases, of which 61 have occurred in Tenerife, 49 in Gran Canaria, two in Fuerteventura, one in La Palma and one in El Hierro, which are added to the seven in Lanzarote.

By area in which they have occurred, 50 are family outbreaks, 36 social, 19 work-related, seven in socially vulnerable groups, six educational, two health and one sports.

In general, all outbreaks have fewer than 10 associated cases except for twelve outbreaks, including the family outbreak with eleven infected reported in Lanzarote. In addition, five of social origin with family ramifications in Gran Canaria with 25, 22, 16, 13 and 11 associated cases stand out, and two of family origin with social ramifications in Tenerife with 16 and 12 associated cases, both linked to family celebrations. Two other large outbreaks occurred in Tenerife, in both educational cases with family ramifications, with 14 and 12 people affected, and in Gran Canaria in the workplace with 16 associated cases, linked to a cargo ship.

It is also highlighted that the majority of family outbreaks this week have occurred between non-cohabitants with several addresses associated with each outbreak.

Educational and sports outbreaks

Of the six educational outbreaks, all with family ramifications, four have been registered in Tenerife and have 14, 12, 7 and 6 cases and one in Gran Canaria with 6 people affected, which is added to the registered in Lanzarote with five affected.

Regarding the sports outbreak, with family ramifications, it has been registered in a football team in Tenerife with three people affected, two players and a family member.

Monitoring 25 old outbreaks

In addition, monitoring is still being carried out on 25 old outbreaks that remain open, some of them having grown in number of cases. These include a work-related outbreak with family ramifications in Tenerife that already affects 52 people, and two others also on this island, one work-related with family ramifications linked to a birthday with 25 cases and another sports-related, with work-related and family ramifications, associated with a basketball team with 22 people affected.

Currently, and after completing the vaccination of group 1, there is no outbreak, nor any user of social health centers affected by Covid-19.

Also, this Wednesday an outbreak has been reported on the island of El Hierro, not included in the detailed record above, of social origin, with four positive cases, which are already in isolation. In this regard, the Ministry of Health indicates that the tracing and performance of diagnostic tests on close contacts has already begun, in accordance with the planned protocol.
