The Minister of Transport of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, announced last Friday that residents of the island must make a minimum of 15 trips in three months (or five monthly trips in three months) in order to access free buses. This was announced by the Minister in the morning program of Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero.
This measure comes after the Government of the Canary Islands announced that it would stop requiring the minimum of 15 monthly trips on public transport in order to guarantee the free service.
Cejas added that "if the 15 trips are accumulated" in those three months, free transport can be accessed. In this sense, islands such as Gran Canaria or Tenerife have announced that they will offer free passes to those who make a minimum of 30 trips in three months, as explained by the Minister himself. In the case of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera or Fuerteventura, the counter has been set to zero. "It is not correct, because this bonus is this year," Cejas stressed. "This is only this year," he insisted.
In addition, he reported that to obtain the transport pass, it will not be necessary to present the registration certificate every six months. It must only be presented when the pass is issued for the first time and if it is canceled for any reason and has to be renewed.
Wind energy in Lanzarote
On the other hand, Cejas has also intervened in the morning program Buenos días, Lanzarote to explain the announcement of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which intends to move forward "in record time" with the wind farm of San Bartolomé. "The administrative situation and the environmental report that entered the institution unfavorably in June 2023 are not yet unblocked," Cejas said.
In that period, the new government group had already entered the administration. "Try to ensure that the parks we have are 100% in production and stop emitting CO2 into the atmosphere," he added.
"This report, which is mandatory, says that the conditions for carrying out the wind farm in Montaña Mina are not met," Domingo Cejas pointed out.
