Lanzarote raised its voice yesterday "for those who are here, those who are not here and those who are in danger" in the act of homage to the 94 victims of femicide so far this year in Spain, 52 of them official deaths due to gender violence, the last one this Monday in the south of Tenerife, Sara, 26 years old. Antonia Cubero, a member of the feminist association Tiemar, dedicated a poem to her, a text that she composed last day after learning of this new macho crime. "Today your wings have been cut off, dear Sara," Antonia read before the hundreds of people who attended the event held on Calle Real de Arrecife, organized by the Forum against Gender Violence of Lanzarote and the Feminist Platform 8M Lanzarote.
The pavement in front of the Yellow House became a mural with 52 violet cards with the names of the murdered women since January 1 and a white rose for each of them in their memory. The first name was that of the young Uruguayan Romina Celeste Núñez, who disappeared on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2018, a case that is being investigated as a death from gender violence.
