The Security and Emergency Consortium has once again warned of a "large presence" of jellyfish on the coasts of La Graciosa and Famara, so it has recommended avoiding swimming in those areas.
Specifically, throughout the weekend and on Monday, numerous Portuguese man-of-war (Physalia physalis) have been sighted, also known as Portuguese frigate, bad water, blue bottle or false jellyfish.
"It is called a false jellyfish because it is actually a colonial organism whose individuals specialize in keeping the colony alive, but the measures taken with it are the same because it has a dangerous and very painful sting," they specify from the Consortium.
