Canary Islands becomes NASA's image of the year

Internet users from all over the world have once again chosen an image of the Canary Islands as NASA's photo of the year. This time, the winning photograph shows the seven Canary Islands from space. The previous year, the award also went to the Archipelago, for an image of the underwater volcano of El Hierro.

The Earth Observatory of the American Space Agency has made public this Monday the final result of the second contest it organizes for Internet users around the planet to choose the best image of the Earth from space.

"The tournament has come to an end and the winner is a familiar face. In 2013, an underwater volcano in the Canary Islands won the first edition of the contest. This year, the entire Archipelago has entered into action," they explain on this website.

This contest began with 32 images preselected by NASA, which have been submitted to voting in pairs each week, in five rounds in which half were discarded.
