The Association of Seniors and Volunteers of Lanzarote (Asomavo) has turned ten years old and on the occasion of this anniversary, this Sunday a tribute was held to the founders and to the people who have been part of the different boards of directors during this time.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the councilor for Seniors, Human Resources and Education of Tías, Aroa Pérez, were present at this event, which was also attended by the Minister of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marciano Acuña, and the president of Asomavo; Severiano García.
The headquarters of Asomavo is located in the old classrooms of the Tías school, on La Orilla street. At the end of 2013, works were carried out in this space worth about 50,000 euros, contributed by the City Council, the Cabildo and the former Obra Social de La Caja.
The elderly of Tías already have a new center for their leisure and meeting activities. After several months of work, the Tías City Council opened the new facilities of the La Orilla Senior Center last fall, where nearly 50,000 euros have been invested by the Tías City Council, the social work of La Caja de Ahorros de Canarias and the Social Welfare area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
The works allowed to rehabilitate and condition this new senior center, the first of its kind in Tías. The center has a large cultural hall, internet and painting classrooms, kitchen and bar, bathrooms and adapted ramps.
