In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the island of Lanzarote will host the X Race against Gender Violence that will take place on Saturday, November 26 with departure and arrival at the Arrecife Fairgrounds. The route, which will be approximately 2.5 kilometers, will run towards Playa Honda, returning along the same route.

At the presentation of the race, held in the Islote de Fermina, the Councilor for Social Rights of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Isabel Martín, pointed out that "gender violence continues to produce dramatic figures in our country and, sadly, every day, we share the pain and suffering of so many women who suffer violence, their daughters and sons, mothers and fathers, family and friends", recalling that, since 2003, 1,171 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain.

Thus, she has highlighted the need to "continue fighting, from the institutions, to achieve a society of equal people and end all types of violence against women" showing her commitment to "not stop working until eradicating" this scourge and "make our society safe and dignified for women."

Therefore, she has invited both "men and women committed to equality" to participate in this tenth edition of the Race against Gender Violence, a recreational activity through which it is intended to continue raising awareness among citizens.

"Acts like this demonstrate that in issues such as gender violence there are no political colors, only unity between institutions to finally try to make this drama cease once and for all," said the mayor of the Arrecife City Council, Ástrid Pérez.

Likewise, Pérez has made a call to "fill the streets of Arrecife" this Saturday. "Because that violet tide against gender violence has to stage the commitment of all citizens of this island to the cause. A race that, despite being a sporting event, has much greater connotations, since it is an event of encounter, social awareness and union," said the mayor of Arrecife during the presentation of the race, which also included the presence of the Councilor for Equality of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Myriam Barros, and the Councilor for Social Services of the capital City Council, María Jesús Tovar.
