Arrecife hosts the first Theoretical-Practical Workshop on Oral Surgery in the Canary Islands

The Theoretical-Practical Workshop on Mucogingival Surgery, held at the Gran Hotel de Arrecife, aims to disseminate complex dental surgery techniques, as well as present innovative tools, such as the use of the microscope in dental operations. This workshop is organized by the Spanish Society of Oral Surgery, SECIB, in collaboration with the Taguere Dental Clinic.

35 dentists have become students during these two days of work, to pay special attention to the novelties that are taking place in the world of oral surgery. The first day included a theory part, where they were taught how to use the new techniques, as well as a practical part, where they were able to perform oral operations on pig jaws. And, as explained by the director of the Taguere Dental Clinic, Enrique Plata, "they are very similar to human jaws, and are used mainly because of the ease of obtaining them."

In addition, they will also hold a live intervention on a patient, who will undergo three operations. This intervention has the peculiarity of using the microscope in its realization. This is an innovative technique and it is now that its benefits are beginning to be known.

Surgical procedures aimed at correcting imperfections, through the management of soft tissues, grafts and sutures are the main techniques that have been exposed these days in the Workshop on Mucogingival Surgery.
