Night after night the public continues to attend each of the events programmed on the occasion of the San Ginés festivities. On Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. one of the most anticipated events began, the Noche de Polcas, which was full of applause for its picaresque notes. A meeting in which each of the invited soloists, with a lot of humor, gave free rein to one of the most fun genres within our cultural heritage, since the double meaning of the sung verses made laughter present.
This first edition featured prominent soloists from other islands of the Archipelago such as Tata García from La Palma, Eduardo Duque from La Gomera, Expedito Suárez from Gran Canaria, Marcos Hormiga and Domingo Umpierrez "El Cuco" from Fuerteventura, and Yurena Cubas and Valentín Fernández from Lanzarote. All were accompanied in the musical part by the members of the "Pal Porrón" group, authentic professionals and connoisseurs of the Canarian traditions, without letting a note escape, they followed each of the interventions carried out by the soloists to the letter, a very complicated task that they overcame with flying colors.
During the development of the show, the polka was linked with other pieces of Canarian folklore such as the isa, seguidilla, folía, malagueña and where the Cuban punto and poetry also had a place. When the chords of the malagueña sounded, another of the great Lanzarote folklorists, Sixto Acosta, who was among the public and was also invited to participate, also took the stage.
The act ended with the chords of an isa parrandera with the participation of all the invited soloists, receiving as in the whole meeting the applause of the public that did not stop smiling throughout the night.
