Six hundred schoolchildren from Arrecife joined the celebration of Canary Islands Day in a musical gathering, directed by the prestigious composer Blas Sánchez, which was held this Tuesday at the Lanzarote Sports City. The participating students came from eight Infant and Primary education centers in Arrecife: Argana Alta, Mercedes Medina, Nieves Toledo, Adolfo Topham, Antonio Zerolo, Destila, Capellanía del Yágabo and Titerroy.
This musical gathering moved the audience, who were able to enjoy well-known songs by Blas Sánchez such as "Despacito sale el sol" or "La muñequita de trapo" in the voices of the young performers. The Antonio Zerolo school choir also participated in the show with their song "Conejero".
This recital "put the finishing touch to a project that the Ingenio artist has been developing over the last few weeks in the different schools and in which the music teachers have also been involved", the Consistory of the capital pointed out.
"Musical Moments Blas Sánchez and the chinijos"
For the Councilor for Education, Ascensión Toledo, celebrating Canary Islands Day in this way was a luxury. "As an educator, as a Councilor for Education and as a mother, I have to admit that I am moved to see the interest of our boys and girls in learning about their roots, learning our traditions, extolling our culture, with our music and our folklore. And for being proud of it", said the councilor.
Ascensión Toledo thanked Blas Sánchez for the work done with the chinijos in the schools. "In these days that I have had the opportunity to meet him, I have fallen in love with his knowledge, his way of working with our boys and girls, his passion for music, for his Canarian land and for life in general", the councilor pointed out in relation to the musician and director of this event.
The councilor and the composer presented all the students with a well-deserved diploma in which their participation in the project "Musical Moments Blas Sánchez and the chinijos" is recognized.
Thanks to the Order of the Canarian Puppy
Toledo also thanked the Order of the Canarian Puppy for counting on the Department of Education for the implementation of the project, all the music teachers and the Elementary Conservatory and Island School of Music, who have also participated in the initiative.
Likewise, the Councilor for Education in Arrecife thanked Luz María Duque Dorta and Gabriel Cubas for the accompaniment they gave to Blas Sánchez during the show.
The concert was also attended by the island director of Education, Mario Pérez; the councilors of Culture and Youth of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Carmen Rosa Márquez and Patricia Pérez, respectively; and the capital councilors of Culture and Youth, Rafael Juan González and Jacobo Lemes.
