"An icon for Tinajo: The sundial of San Roque." This was the title of the conference that took place last Monday at the Municipal Theater of Tinajo, and was given by Luis Balbuena Castellano. He was in charge of recounting the history of this clock, for which he made a "curious exhibition" in which he addressed "very interesting topics and future projects for the municipality", as reported in a statement by the City Council of Tinajo.

The Tinajo sundial is "a great icon for the municipality", according to the City Council, since it is more than 150 years old. It is located at the top of the church of San Roque.

Manuel Padarea, founder of the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association and professor of Mathematics, also participated in this exhibition. Also present were Maura Padarea, also a professor of Mathematics at the University of La Laguna and promoter of the aforementioned association, as well as the former island director of Education, Juan Cruz, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, and the councilor of Education, Arecia Fontes.

In addition, the mayor, on behalf of the municipality and the Consistory, presented the speakers with bronze replicas of the Tinajo sundial.
