A book by José Ferrer reveals figures similar to the Mojón Sweethearts in different parts of the world

The director of the Tanit ethnographic museum, José Ferrer, presented a book this Monday, entitled "Lanzarote Traditions, Novios del Mojón". This publication includes different figures and some engravings from different countries around the world, which also have a very similar figure to that of the Novios del Mojón.

The author of the book explains that in ancient Mesopotamia a female figure similar to the bride was already found, while in the Shanghai museum a couple similar to the Novios del Mojón is exhibited. The same occurs in the José María museum, located in the Argentine province of Córdoba, or in the Ibizan pubic figures.

José Ferrer also includes in this book some biographies of old Lanzarote potters, who are barely known. These are Las Hermanas Ratonas and Seña Teodomira, although he also mentions the exceptional Dorotea la de Muñique, since he dedicates this book to her memory.

The publication also includes some interviews with Lanzarote pottery ceramists, such as Juan Brito Martín or the recently honored at the XXIII Insular Craft Fair, Juan Betancort Nuñez. Likewise, José Ferrer talks about Marcial de León Barrios, Fefo García Corujo, Joaquín Reyes Betancort, Teresa Morales and Stefan Schultz, among others.

The author of the book intends for it to serve both researchers and the general public, inviting them to obtain a general vision of this type of figures. This book can be purchased at the Tanit museum.
