81.19% of the crimes committed in the province of Las Palmas in 2022 were carried out by Spaniards. Therefore, foreign people do not commit more crimes than natives, despite the hoaxes that associate migrants with higher crime rates.
Foreigners residing in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa account for only 18.81% of criminal acts, according to the most up-to-date figures from the National Institute of Statistics.
In data, throughout 2022, 13,314 people were convicted in the province of Las Palmas for different crimes. Of these, 10,809 were of Spanish authorship.
The INE data does not break down the nationality of European criminals, but it does by other continents: 881 convictions for Africans; 754 for Americans; and 63 for Asians.
The 2023 Annual Report on the situation of migrants and refugees in Spain already warned of the presence of hoaxes and disinformation that grow around migrants. Of these, it denied, for example, that migrants collapse public health, being only 11% of the patients who went to the National Health System in a survey of the year 2017 or that they have more social advantages.
