The Papacría Association has shown its "deep concern" about the increase in pollution due to the irresponsible abandonment of garbage in the natural spaces of Lanzarote.

In this sense, it has pointed out that the uncontrolled dumping of elements in natural spaces "compromises the integrity of our ecosystems and negatively affects the quality of life of the community." At the same time, they have asked that measures be taken to reduce this problem in the environment.

In addition, "it not only degrades the environment, but also threatens local biodiversity, and negatively affects the experience of those who visit us," added this association, classified as a Custody of the Territory Entity by the Government of the Canary Islands.

Detecting offenders

As a proposed solution, the Papacría Association adds examples such as that of Germany, where offenders are identified by analyzing waste. "This could include reviewing invoices, personal documents or any information," they added.

Likewise, secondly, they have pointed to surveillance and patrolling as other elements to control any environmental attack, including video surveillance cameras.

Thirdly, it has indicated citizen participation through complaints and witnesses, as well as fourthly the collaboration of companies and organizations to trace the source of said waste.

To conclude, the Papacría Association has placed special emphasis on the value of awareness and education programs to try to eradicate this behavior.

In this sense, it has asked that these measures be extrapolated to Lanzarote, in conjunction with economic and criminal sanctions "to dissuade those who ignore existing regulations."
