The Management of Sanitary Services of the Lanzarote Health Area recently celebrated the traditional farewell ceremony for the eleven resident internal nurses (EIR) who finished their specialized training stage in the health centers and hospitals of the island.
The promotions that finish their residency this year are made up of four resident internal nurses in family and community nursing, one in geriatric nursing, three in obstetric-gynecological nursing and three in pediatric nursing.
The official program of the Nursing specialties consists of two years, a period in which the new professionals have received theoretical and practical training, carried out care activity in health centers and participated in research activity.
The event, held in the assembly hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, was attended by the Manager of Health Services, Pablo Eguia, the Nursing Directors of Primary Care and the Molina Orosa and Insular Hospitals, Felicidad Béjar, Teresa Salegre and María Montilla, respectively, and the Head of Studies of the Teaching Commission, Verónica Gutiérrez.
Also participating were the presidents of the Subcommittee of the Multiprofessional Teaching Units of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics of the Insular-Maternal-Infant University Hospital Complex of Gran Canaria, as well as the tutors of the different specialties, nursing supervisors and colleagues of the residents who were finishing their training period.
Research work
During the event, the residents presented their research works referring to the different topics analyzed, such as the dependency profile in Lanzarote, overweight and obesity among the pediatric population, healthy aging of adults and the health needs perceived by women in prostitution
Finally, the head of studies, Verónica Gutiérrez, and the president of the Subcommittee of the nursing specialties, Víctor Romero, presented diplomas to the new nurses of each specialty and congratulated them for their work in the health centers during these two years of training. In addition, the commitment of the tutors of specialized health training was highlighted, whose work is fundamental in the learning process of the new nursing professionals.
