Ecologistas en Acción Lanzarote has stated that the celebration of the XXV Rallye de Tierra Virgen de los Volcanes-Trofeo Ciudad de Arrecife 2023 and the constant quad excursions cause "irreversible damage to biodiversity."
The environmental group on the island has made a call to institutions and the population to have "more love for the island and get actively and effectively involved in its conservation. The environmental association has denounced that linking these events to the image of Lanzarote, adventure and the discovery of nature is a great irresponsibility on the part of the Cabildo of Lanzarote."
Likewise, it has highlighted that "the European Environment Agency (EEA) has revealed that the image offered by the Isla de los Volcanes Road Rally - Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy is the opposite of what Lanzarote needs. The transit of some 100 vehicles per route, mostly semi-virgin, will produce a severe environmental impact, direct and indirect, and displeasure on the part of a tourism that is increasingly aware of caring for the environment."
