The month of August begins with a tragic and unfortunate event that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday on Timanfaya street in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen. The Civil Guard is investigating the death of a young Irish tourist, identified as Dereck C., only 18 years old.
At 05:35 this Wednesday, a taxi driver alerted the Civil Guard to a fight between several young people on Timanfaya street. The patrol that went to the scene found three people there, of Irish nationality, one of them unconscious lying on the ground, barely breathing, losing his vital signs.
The civil guards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers trying to recover him while alerting the Island Coordination Center of the Red Cross, requesting the presence of an assistance unit. Upon arrival, the health team took charge of the situation, attending to the young man and continuing with the resuscitation maneuvers. They also requested the presence of the medicalized resource of the Canary Emergency Service (S.U.C.). Upon arrival, the instrumentalized resuscitation continued, but the situation could not be reversed and the death of the young man was certified.
According to the testimony of the other two people, also Irish, 16 and 27 years old, who accompanied the victim, the three were attacked by a group of four men who fled the scene in a car. The Red Cross assures that, according to eyewitnesses, the young people of Irish origin, with apparent alcohol intoxication, had had an argument with another group of people and that one of them received a blow to the face, falling to the ground unconscious.
The body of the young man has been transferred to the Forensic Morgue where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact causes of his death.
Personnel from the Judicial Police team of the Civil Guard are investigating the proceedings of this case and an investigation has been initiated both to clarify what happened and to identify and locate the perpetrators of the attack.
