Ángel Rodríguez, the diver who found the lifeless body of a diver 90 meters deep in the waters of Puerto del Carmen this Tuesday, has indicated that the body is on the seabed, "deposited on a small ledge." "It is in front of the Playa Chica area," he said this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote.
Rodríguez, from the Marina Rubicón Diving Center, made a dive this Tuesday with a student. "We were doing a practice for the course, a deep dive. At 90 meters, we observed what appeared to be a body, which we later confirmed it was," he indicated. Rodríguez was the first to see the lifeless body of the diver. "I was going first and my student behind. I was surprised because I didn't expect it," he said.
Rodríguez, who has been a diving instructor for 12 years, was surprised by this finding and immediately called 112 to give the warning. "It's the first time something like this has happened to me, that I find a body by chance. I have participated in body rescues in Galicia, but of course, there you were looking for it," he said.
"The rescue does not represent a major complication"
Once the body is located, according to Rodríguez, "the rescue work, although not extremely simple, does not represent a major complication either." "With the appropriate equipment and diving techniques, the body can be taken out," he stated.
However, the body, located on Tuesday, has not yet been rescued. At 12:00 p.m., the GEAS of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas are finally expected to arrive, who will carry out a first dive, but will not be able to remove the diver's body from the water. And it is that, apparently, they do not have the necessary material means.
Thus, it will be necessary to wait for the arrival of a team of specialized divers from the Peninsula so that they are the ones who try to rescue the body. According to La Voz, this team will not arrive on the island until Thursday.
Precisely, Ángel Rodríguez has explained that it is not "normal" for divers to go down to 90 meters deep, since the usual thing is for recreational divers to reach, at most, 40 meters. "We are specialized in technical diving, which are specific techniques to dive deeper than normal. That's why we saw the body," he indicated, while saying that it is likely that the body has been in this area for a long time, since "with the weight of the material" it has not been able to surface.
Bosco Fernández Tapias disappeared in this area
In this same area of Puerto del Carmen, Bosco Fernández Tapias, son of businessman Fernando Fernández Tapias, disappeared in October 2010 while diving. The search for the young man was suspended after a week of tracking, since the Civil Guard considered that his body could be in a sinkhole about 200 or 300 meters deep. At that time, the Benemérita assured that its location was impossible.
Bosco Fernández Tapias is the only diver who disappeared in this area of the island of Lanzarote in recent years, who has not yet been found.
