The accidental mayor of Haría, Víctor Robayna, has recounted the moments leading up to the disappearance of a man of 37 years old, who jumped into the sea in Charco del Palo with the intention of grabbing a bale of drugs that was floating on the coast. "The last requests for help were heard and he disappeared in the darkness," he said on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero.
Robayna explained that it was around 6:30 p.m. when everything happened. "His partner advised him not to bathe, even the foreigners themselves, one of them a fisherman, also told him so," he stressed, specifying that all these recommendations were "because of the time and how the sea was."
"Visually, the bale looked quite close, but when we jump into the sea the distances change and you have to fight against the current," the mayor pointed out. In fact, shortly after he jumped into the water, they saw how he was trying to return to the coast "with considerable fatigue." From there they heard the last screams, the last requests for help, until he disappeared into the darkness.
"No one could jump into the sea there. Anyone who knows the weather knows that it was completely impossible," added Robayna, who described "the concern of the relatives" from the coast and the helplessness that was experienced.
In fact, when the emergency services arrived, they couldn't enter the sea either. "The helicopter made several passes, a fairly exhaustive search was carried out," said Robayna, who points out that the Salvamar was in the area and joined the search efforts, although the sea conditions, together with the haze, "did not help in the slightest to locate the body."

Two more bales of drugs were seen
The accidental mayor has also stated that this was not the only bale of drugs that was found on Wednesday in the municipality of Haría. In addition to the one that was seen in Charco del Palo, and for which the young man jumped into the sea, the accidental mayor points out that in the search efforts "another bale was visualized", and that later they told him "that one more had appeared on La Garita beach."
It should be remembered that this Tuesday, the Local Police of Arrecife also took a 38-kilo bale of hashish out of the water on the maritime avenue of the capital.
