Public works tender in the Canary Islands soars in the first quarter of 2026

They are a total of 123 million euros more than during the same period last year and most of it has been allocated to construction

The official tender budget for building and civil engineering works by Public Administrations exceeded 399 million euros in the Canary Islands until March 2026. This represents a 76.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

This is one of the data points that appears in the Official Tender Statistics in Construction published by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).

This increase is much more intense than that seen in the country as a whole, where the budgeted amount in the first quarter of 2026 increased by 15.7%.

The majority of the budget is borne by the regional and local administrations of the Canary Islands, which have tendered almost 83% of the total, exceeding 330 million euros. Furthermore, compared to the same period in 2025, the tender budget has increased by 123 million euros.

By type of work, the majority of the budget, 63.4%, is allocated to building construction, while the rest (145.9 million euros) is destined for civil engineering works.
