The City Council of Yaiza has announced the suspension of outdoor activities this Tuesday due to the strong winds derived from the high-impact storm Regina, which is affecting Lanzarote and the rest of the Canary archipelago these days.
Lanzarote is on alert for coastal phenomena and on orange alert for swell, where waves are expected to reach up to seven meters in height. Meanwhile, the island is also on pre-alert for wind.
Following this storm, a southern town has decided to suspend "all recreational, cultural, and sports activities organized" for this March 3.
These suspensions occur at a time when the high-impact storm Regina has plummeted the temperatures in Lanzarote down to 9.9 degrees during the early hours of last Monday. This is shown by the data from the State Meteorological Agency collected at the different stations on the island.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts for this Tuesday gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour, especially in inland areas. Meanwhile, Aemet stations in Haría and San Bartolomé have reached 80 kilometers per hour during the first hours of Monday night. At 10:00 PM, in the municipality of Tías, maximum gusts of up to 79 kilometers per hour were also recorded. In municipalities like Tinajo, up to 60 kilometers per hour have been recorded, while in Playa Blanca it is around 50 kilometers per hour.
