The Local Police of Yaiza seized various pirated computer materials in a call center in Playa Blanca where, presumably, a crime was also committed against the rights of workers.
The agents of the Accident Reports Unit of the Local Police and the Intervention Group went last week to carry out a routine check in this establishment, which also performed functions of cyber, money transfer and bazaar.
In the premises were the owner, who responds to the initials S.O.A.S. and is a native of Mauritania, and the worker D.M.H., who was undocumented. During the identification, the agents proceeded to inspect the premises, discovering four computers and various computer materials that had pirated software that was used in the premises (including several PC games and various applications), "all pirated and activated without the consent of the owner of the intellectual property rights of the product", according to the Police.
After the pertinent inquiries were made with a judicial expert in intellectual property attached to the anti-piracy commission of the Ministry of Culture, the agents verified that the computer equipment presented, among others, an application called "Cyber Control", which manages the collections and activity of the premises of which they did not have an original license, using a copy "enabled without the consent of its owner", and from which you can access several applications and even make use of games for which you do not have a license to use either.
Once the subjects were informed of the alleged fraudulent use of the software, the agents proceeded to request the employment contracts and the documentation referring to the workers, "verifying that they did not have any employment contract and that, in addition, they could not justify, in any way, that they were working in a legal situation".
After informing the Duty Court, the agents proceeded to seize and make available to the court the computer equipment that, supposedly, used pirated software. Specifically, four computers, four monitors, three keyboards, four mice, a multifunction device, two routers, and a switch, and to charge the person in charge of the premises with a crime against intellectual property, and its owner, with allegedly committing both crimes against intellectual property and also against the rights of workers.
