The National Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana arrested a 32-year-old man, with no police record, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of homicide.
On the morning of Saturday, July 24, the National Police telephone 091 received a call, alerting that a person was lying on the ground without signs of life in the vicinity of a leisure venue in Playa del Inglés in Gran Canaria.
Several units of the National Police, Citizen Attention Group, Judicial Police and Scientific Police and emergency services went to the scene. Once there, they confirmed the presence of a 47-year-old man lying on the ground without vital signs, so the area was cordoned off.
Police investigators began to gather information from witnesses, local employees, friends and the deceased's wife. The first police investigations pointed to a heart attack since, according to acquaintances, he had consumed drugs that night. However, marks were observed on his neck, so the body was transferred to the Forensic Anatomical Institute for analysis.
Thanks to several witnesses
Several witnesses told the agents that they had observed how one of the local employees performed the “lion killer” technique on the man, who later died, as he was very upset. At one point during the immobilization, the man collapsed on the ground.
Given these statements, the security cameras were analyzed, observing how, indeed, a local employee grabbed the victim by the neck and the victim collapsed on the ground. In addition, the forensic report corroborated that the cause of death was asphyxia.
Therefore, given the risk of the alleged perpetrator fleeing, a search device was activated. Once located, his immediate arrest proceeded.
As soon as he was placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, it ordered his immediate imprisonment.
