A driver tested positive for alcohol after running over two people on the LZ-2 in the early hours of Saturday, one of whom was seriously injured.
According to the Civil Guard, the events took place shortly after 06:00 hours near Playa Honda, after a woman stopped her vehicle on the hard shoulder because it had broken down. After that, the man, who is her partner and was driving another vehicle, stopped to help her, and a third car hit both vehicles.
"My sister-in-law was in the middle of the two cars and when she hit the vehicle she crushed her against the two cars. And my brother had just got into her car and was trapped. He managed to get away but when he got out he fainted," a relative of the victims told La Voz.

The woman was seriously injured and, according to her sister-in-law, hours after being admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital she was evacuated by helicopter to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she underwent emergency surgery on her pelvis and knee, with more operations pending. As for the man, he was transferred to the Molina Orosa Hospital with minor injuries and is already at home although "full of bruises". "Thank God he has more bruises," says his sister.
Regarding the driver who hit them, the Civil Guard has confirmed that he tested positive for alcohol, at a rate higher than 0.60, when the maximum allowed by law is 0.25 milligrams per liter in exhaled air. Thus, he has been investigated for an offense against road safety.
According to the Benemérita, the Penal Code establishes prison sentences of three to six months for those who drive with an alcohol level higher than 0.60 milligrams per liter, a fine of six to twelve months or community service of 30 to 90 days, as well as the deprivation of the right to drive for a period of more than one and up to four years, although in this case the injuries caused to the victims should be taken into account as an aggravating factor.
