The Minister of Culture and Sports, José Guirao Cabrera, will officially inaugurate the centenary of the birth of César Manrique with his presence this Wednesday, May 8, at the headquarters of the César Manrique Foundation in Taro de Tahíche.
According to the FCM, the Minister of Culture and Sports will inaugurate the cycle of conversations led by Iñaki Gabilondo, who will talk with the political scientist Sami Naïr about Europe, geostrategy and migrations, as well as the exhibition 'César Manrique. Lanzarote', which contains the mural painted by the artist in 1953 for the passenger terminal of the island's first airport, a piece that has not been exhibited for almost fifty years.
The minister's official agenda also includes visits to the César Manrique House-Museum in Haría and the César Manrique Foundation.
Previously, on Tuesday, May 7, José Guirao will visit the exhibition 'César Manrique, word and commitment: Power is made uncomfortable' and will attend the master lecture given by the anthropologist Eudald Carbonell, Prince of Asturias Award, entitled 'Human evolution and operative conscience', which will be held in the José Saramago room in La Plazuela de Arrecife.
From the FCM they point out that the Minister of Culture and Sports thus expresses the support of the Government of Spain for the centenary of the birth of the artist, which began on April 24 with the celebration of various commemorative events and a party in Taro de Tahíche, and which will last until April 24, 2020.
