El Almacén has been the place chosen for the presentation this Tuesday of the eighth edition of 'Veintinueve Trece', the Lanzarote Photography and Visual Arts Meeting. An event organized in institutional collaboration by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism and the Culture Area of the Arrecife City Council.
The Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, has expressed "the firm support of the Cabildo for this meeting that every year makes us reflect on important issues for society from multiple perspectives, putting the name of Lanzarote as a benchmark in the organization of events that has audiovisual material as the protagonist at a national and international level".
After seven editions of the 'Meeting' and its consolidation as a reference space for visual culture in the Canary Islands, 'Veintinueve Trece' begins a new journey for the next 5 years in which different "counter-trends" will be addressed. Each year a program will be developed around a theme that allows questioning certain concepts that structure current society and that, starting from a global character, also have impact at a regional and local level and can be addressed by the visual arts.
Nicolás Melián, spokesperson for the organization, explained that "in this sense 'Failure' will be the transversal theme of all the activities that are part of this eighth edition of the festival, specifically, failure as a "counter-trend" to the current obsession with success that permeates all strata of society, including the growth, knowledge and reflection of the various mental illnesses, especially in the younger population".
