The documentary "Utopia Manrique", about the life of César Manrique from Lanzarote, will be broadcast this Sunday, June 12 at 20:25 on La 2 of Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE).
This film, co-produced by the César Manrique Foundation (FCM) and RTVE within the framework of the centenary of the artist's birth, will be broadcast within the program "Imprescindibles", which disseminates a series of documentaries about prominent figures in contemporary Spanish culture.
During the almost sixty minutes of the film, the artist is shown to be "modern, uninhibited, versatile and a precursor" in terms of the relationships between art and nature. Likewise, the media projection of the artist is evident, associated with the environmental spaces he created such as Jameos del Agua, the Cactus Garden or the Mirador del Río, and also linked to Taro de Tahíche, his house sunk in the bowels of the lava.
"Utopia Manrique" is directed by filmmaker Miguel G. Morales, creator of other audiovisual works about the Lanzarote artist such as "Taro. The echo of Manrique" and "Las manos". It also features an original script by Fernando Gómez Aguilera, writer and director of the FCM, a voice-over by the Goya-winning actress, Charo López, and a soundtrack by the Macedonian composer and musician based in Tenerife, Mladen Kurajica.
The premiere of the film, which is part of the exhibition project "César Manrique. It is a pleasure", took place on April 22 in the auditorium of Jameos del Agua, in an act in which the FCM formally concluded the commemoration of the centenary. The project can still be visited at the institution's headquarters in Taro de Tahíche.
