Summer is approaching, the days are long, you want to go out, and Lanzarote is full of opportunities to enjoy culture all over the island. Traditional and modern music, theater, exhibitions, literature, the International Festival of Movement Arts of the Canary Islands and much more.

MUSIC

 

  • Bio Ritmos Folk Festival 

The Bio Ritmos Folk Festival returns to the amphitheater of Las Cucharas Beach in Costa Teguise with bands from Palencia, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

When: Friday, June 14 at 9:00 p.m. 

Where: Las Cucharas Amphitheater - Costa Teguise

  • “Weaving Traditions” Folklore Festival

The Malpaís de la Corona folklore group once again offers the Hilando Tradiciones festival. This year with the participation of the folklore group from Fuerteventura, Maxorata. 

When: Friday, June 14 at 9:00 p.m. 

Where: Plaza de Haría.

  • Camilo

The renowned Colombian artist Camilo arrives in Lanzarote to offer a concert as part of his “Nuestro Lugar Feliz Tour”. He will perform his best-known songs and also the most recent ones.

When: Friday, June 14 at 9:30 p.m. 

Where: Lanzarote Sports City.

  • Verbena. Nyno Artiles and Janet Rey 

The Verbena literary meeting concludes with musical artists Nyno Artiles and Janet Rey who will play typical Verbena songs on the piano at the Picasso bar in El Almacén.

When: Friday, June 14 at 9:30 p.m.

  • Popular Music Meeting of the El Pavón group

XXV edition of the traditional popular music meeting of the El Pavón group of Tías. 

When: Saturday, June 15 at 8:30 p.m. 

Where: Terrero de Lucha Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez, Tías.

  • Hey Chabón

The Gran Canaria band Hey Chabón will offer a concert in La Graciosa full of guitar sounds, percussions, voices, dance and movement, fusing cumbia, son, samba, samba-reggae, chacarera and other rhythms from various parts of the world.

When: Saturday, June 15 at 9:00 p.m.

DANCE. Festival Internacional de las Artes del Movimiento de Canarias (MOVE)

 

  • MOVE: “Cinedance and Conversation”

Cinedance is much more than recording a performance. It consists of uniting two artistic languages into a new piece of art. Session led by Juan Reyes and Silvia García. 

When: Thursday, June 13 at 8:00 p.m. 

Where: Valterra Sociocultural Center.

Free admission. 

 

  • MOVE Festival: ‘Fashion I am not’

Interdisciplinary contemporary dance piece directed and choreographed by Mado Dallery, with sound space on stage by Lucía Montes. It takes as its starting point an investigation based on the impact of the gaze of others on a young body. It aims to play with deformity in the body and its perception. 

When: Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 p.m.

  • ​MOVE Festival: Solart’ Ukrainian Art & Dance (Ukraine) Modern Dance

When: Saturday, June 15 at 12:00 p.m. 

Where: Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture, Arrecife.

  • Festival MOVE: “What I never told you’” Enbedanza (Tenerife)

A contemporary dance performance about a deep love, a deep pain, a deep look... that which words cannot tell. 

When: Saturday, June 15 at 8:00 p.m. 

Where: Valterra Socio Cultural Center, Arrecife.

LITERATURE

  • Verbena Meeting. The family structure in Hispanic American literature

The III edition of the Verbena literary meeting continues. In this session, the writer María Limón and the editor Alejandro Marín will address one of the most poignant themes in literature: the family. They will offer an observation on what has been written about the perception of the world and how it is constructed, crossed by family roles.

When: Friday, June 14 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Verbena Meeting. The vindication of tenderness: writings from love and pop

Juanpe Sánchez López, author, among other titles, of the essay Superemocional: a defense of love, and Carlos Alayón, with his poetic gaze, will talk about pop icons, the corny, the uncomfortable and the beautiful from queer and intersectional perspectives.

  • Verbena Meeting. The landscape rises: fear and the wild in literature

The author María de la Cruz will talk with Beatriz Morales about poetic construction, the gaze linked to language and beauty for beauty.

THEATER

  • The loves of Aunt Antonia

This vindictive play pays tribute to the relegated and silenced women throughout history. It also aims to recover part of the rich historical legacy of Arrecife. It features live music and a cast of outstanding actresses and actors from the island.

When: Saturday, June 15 at 8:00 p.m. 

Where: Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero”

Tickets at 15 euros.

 

  • Theater, dance and sign language show from the Teguise courses

The students of the cultural plan of the Teguise city council show part of what they have learned during the course in theater, dance and sign language. 

When: Tuesday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. 

Where: Convents of Santo Domingo in the Villa de Teguise.

Free admission until full capacity. 



EXHIBITIONS

  • Ángel Guerra. A writer from Lanzarote

In 2024, it will be 150 years since the birth of the writer, journalist and politician from Lanzarote, Ángel Guerra, literary pseudonym of José Betancort Cabrera (Teguise, 1874-Madrid, 1950), chosen as “Writer of the Day of Canarian Literature” by the Government of the Canary Islands. For this reason, this retrospective exhibition is organized. 

When: Inauguration on June 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Until September 21.

CINEMA

  • Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén. June 12, 2024.

El Almacén screens “Our Last Dance”, directed by the Swiss director Delphine Lehericey. In it, she deals with old age and mourning, through a comedy that questions the infantilized treatment given to the elderly.

When: Thursday, June 12 at 8:30 p.m.

Where: El Almacén, in Arrecife.

Tickets at 3 euros.

 

  • Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén. June 18, 2024.

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents the film “Animalia” by the Franco-Moroccan director Sofia Alaoui, who debuts in feature films with a film very critical of the Moroccan regime and which uses science fiction as a backdrop.

When: Wednesday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m.

Where: El Almacén, in Arrecife.
