The IES Las Maretas in Arrecife hosted this Friday the final of the tenth edition of 'Ciberlandia', the project promoted by the Education area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote in collaboration with the University Institute of Cybernetic Sciences and Technologies of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).

“More than 200 students from six schools on the island have participated this year in this initiative, which aims to awaken curiosity and scientific vocation in young people through robotics,” explains Myriam Barros, Minister of Education of the Cabildo.

With the idea of motivating and bringing science and technology closer to schoolchildren from a close perspective, in each edition of 'Ciberlandia' activities and challenges are proposed inspired by a specific, new and different theme, to which it is proposed to seek a solution.

This is carried out through a training program consisting of the delivery of face-to-face workshops to different groups of schoolchildren, after which a final challenge is carried out. In the workshops, robotics is the main protagonist, a multidisciplinary branch that integrates different disciplines such as physics, mathematics, electronics, mechanics or computing and that is considered a powerful and attractive educational tool.

This year, and relying on the maxim of learning by playing, a competitive/cooperative game has been proposed for which the students have had to build and program excavating units and robotic trucks. A collection/foraging challenge consisting of locating, collecting, transporting and recovering a series of materials of interest in a hostile environment and with a complicated topography.

In this tenth edition of 'Ciberlandia', Primary and Secondary students from CEIP Argana Alta and Titerroy and from IES Las Maretas, Altavista, Costa Teguise and San Bartolomé have participated.
