The residents of La Graciosa celebrated Carmen's Day this Tuesday with the maritime procession with high participation.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, expressed her satisfaction with the development of the festivities and congratulated the population of the Villa de Teguise and La Graciosa for their participation, and all the personnel and security and emergency means that have made it possible. "These celebrations are a reflection of our identity and the devotion we feel for Nuestra Señora del Carmen. I thank everyone who has collaborated to make these parties a success,” she said.
The Councilor for Festivities, Javier Díaz, also highlighted the importance of these festivities for the population. In addition, he pointed out that the participation “was extraordinary”, and in which activities for all tastes could be enjoyed. “We will continue working hand in hand with the festival committees so that they continue to be a benchmark on the island,” Díaz concluded.
The first procession took place in the Villa de Teguise, where the solemn religious function was carried out accompanied by the Teguise Teguiband Municipal Band, which began at 12:00 hours, and which toured the main streets of the historic site. At the end, the toast took place in the emblematic Spínola Palace, a moment of fraternization between neighbors, residents and authorities.
On the other hand, on the eighth island, the traditional maritime procession of La Graciosa took place, in which the image of the Virgen del Carmen was transferred by boat and where the floral offering took place in homage to the deceased. This event was very well received by the population where numerous boats participated. Subsequently, the El Lagar de Teseguite parrand and the Altaja Folkloric and Cultural Association made the offering on the esplanade of the pier, this being an emotional and significant moment for all those present.
The celebrations will continue in La Graciosa until July 22, with a varied program that includes cultural and festive events.
The Teguise City Council thanks all the participants, media, collaborators and all the authorities who were present in the Villa, from the Government of the Canary Islands and from other city councils and Cabildo and all those who have made the success of the Fiestas de Nuestra Señora del Carmen 2024 possible.
