Europe's largest ocean festival returns to Los Jameos del Agua

The event will tour 15 cities in the Spanish geography between October and November

Los Jameos del Agua will once again host the screening of the International Ocean Film Tour, Europe's largest ocean festival, which will return to Lanzarote on its world tour on November 4.

According to the festival's production company, Kinema Producciones, the event arrives on the Island of Volcanoes within a "frenetic" tour in which it continues to break records city by city. The IOFT opens online ticket sales for its event in Lanzarote, an evening surrounded by "the volcanic magic" of Los Jameos del Agua, which plans to fill the venue in record time with its 120 minutes of pure adrenaline, distributed in six short films from three continents selected from thousands of projects around the world, in addition to guests, raffles and surprises to never stop surprising.

In the original version subtitled in Spanish, the festival takes on the challenge of building a society based on love, respect and defense of the environment, with current issues included in the 2030 Agenda for Circular Economy of the United Nations for a more just and sustainable society, addressing real equality, inclusion, fair reintegration, the fight against poverty, water management, sustainable cities or the creation of alliances, among other issues, in a journey around the world.

Volume 9 features documentaries from Australia, Germany, Tonga, Lebanon, Poland, England, and Spain, with social activism as the main focus and Madison Stewart, Alica Forrest and Jordan de Boer as headliners. The short film The power of activism is the spearhead of this edition, showing the commitment to advance in the conservation of the oceans, with a pioneering vision of activism and environmental protection from the economy.

In this 18-minute Australian production short, three women come together to economically calculate the value of environmental activism, answering several key questions and making a necessary reflection. Does environmental protection have an economic benefit? How can it be calculated?

The International Ocean Film Tour will take the public to discover the wildest oceans, breaking barriers and debunking myths, the objective of the German short film No limits, where Ben Neumann, a 17-year-old blind young man, surpasses all limits by surfing the well-known wave of the Eisbach without seeing it.

The short film Facing monsters will raise the heart rate with Kerby Brown's face-to-face to dominate the most powerful waves in the world, where surfing becomes the tool to tame his inner demons, even if it means risking everything. For its part, from England, Sweet adventure presents the journey of Albee Layer, Nora Vasconcellos and Matt Meola, three surfers with the same objective, to find the best waves on a journey into the unknown.

Below the surface, the short film George & the whales, a production from Tonga and Lebanon, delves into the depths of the ocean to learn about the intimacy and love of the largest mammal in the seas, on a journey that will change the life of its protagonist, helping him to know the peace and power that dwells among the queens of the sea.

The claim, the social denunciation and the harsh reality are put on the table with the production of Poland, England and Spain, Stolen fish that presents the struggle to survive of fishing in Gambia, harassed by the overexploitation of fishing by illegal trawlers, which has led to poverty an entire country. Paul, Abou, and Mariama are the faces of this faltering development in West Africa, which feeds the dream of a better life in Europe.

Raffles and surprises

With the inexhaustible Déborah Sabina as master of ceremonies, dressed for the occasion with the designs of Abissi Moda and Rethink Your Garbage, the gala has been organized for all audiences, with short films in the original subtitled version and simultaneous sign language translation. Gala attendees will be able to participate in the raffle of various experiences related to the sea as usual in all their events.

This event in Lanzarote is a “special” event and is part of the festival's international tour, which will visit 18 countries in 350 events. For 17 years, the International Ocean Film Tour has screened carefully selected films and documentaries from the world of the seven seas to the big screen around the planet and with this volume 9 it celebrates its 7th tour in Spain.

This festival, originally from Germany, through the German production company Moving Adventures GmbH, is promoted and distributed in Spain by Kinema Producciones SL and is sponsored by the Illustrious Cabildo de Lanzarote through Turismo de Lanzarote as well as the collaboration of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote - CACT, Top Time Eventos, Sea Shepherd Spain, the specialized magazine AQUA, Pastinaca Diving Club and the environmental dissemination associations Lanzarote Limpia Lanzarote, Latitud Azul and Ambiente Europeo.
