The show Verses for a City, an unpublished work by timplista Benito Cabrera, put the finishing touch to the program of events held in Arrecife organized by the City Council on the occasion of Canary Islands Day.

At 8:00 p.m. last Friday on the stage installed in the José Ramírez Cerdá park, the timplista Benito Cabrera, accompanied by the guitarist Tomás Fariña, an indefatigable traveling companion, Árgel Campos - lead voice and Bosco González, reciting poet, were interspersing songs and poems of the greatest.

Among them by Francisco de Quevedo, Mario Benedetti, Tomás de Iriarte, Agustín Espinosa, Rafael Alberti, Agustín Millares or Blas Cabrera, among others.

Some poems masterfully recited by Bosco González, a luxury to listen to him, with an unparalleled vocal technique, reciting each of the masterpieces established in the script.

Árgel Campos with a background well known for his interventions in musicals and operas such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, La Traviata or Goodbye to Bohemia, was in charge of giving voice to each of the songs in different genres such as; Mazurka, By Chance, Ropa Tendida or A Foggy Afternoon and, among others, Verses for a City.

It adapts to each location and invites us to an intimate tour of the most emblematic corners of the cities and towns of the Canary Islands. Through the magic of music and captivating melodies, where poems come to life, intertwining the feeling of poets with the heartbeats of the earth. Songs carefully selected to resonate with the emotions described in the verses, become the common thread weaving the narrative of each place, on this occasion Arrecife and Lanzarote.

Verses for a City reached the public for its simple content and without any complication in its musical, oral and sung exposition by four great communicators very close as Benito Cabrera, Tomás Fariña, Árgel Campos and Bosco González, highlight an anecdote that occurred when Bosco González with the mastery that characterizes him recited the poem by Francisco de Quevedo "El Pedo", here is part of its content:

Someone asked me one day

What is a fart?

and I answered very quietly:

a fart is a fart,

with a body of air and a heart of wind

a fart is like a soul in pain

that sometimes blows, that sometimes thunders

it is like water that slides

with great force, with great haste.

A fart is like the cloud that is flying

and wherever it passes it fumigates,

a fart is life, a fart is death

and it has something that amuses us.

Without a doubt, Bosco González, with the way he interpreted it, drew a smile and applause from the public who enjoyed an unprecedented and novel show. This work is the creation of the musician and timplista Benito Cabrera, who has taken the timple through terrains ranging from folk, pop and classical music. At the end of the concert the public, standing, rewarded the magnificent work of the four artists.

The deputy mayor and Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Culture, Abigail González, shared with them congratulating them for the content and development of the Verses for a City project.
