The Lanzarote Council will launch the 'Theater that Heals' project from November 13 to 17, aimed at the prevention, awareness and visibility of gender violence and the promotion of healthy relationships in young people.
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Lanzarote Council, Marci Acuña, points out that "this initiative, aimed at first-year high school students, aims to join efforts to face the serious social problem of gender violence, focusing on awareness and education of the new generations." With this, she adds, "the emphasis is placed on recognizing and preventing attitudes that may lead to this type of situation."
The project will be developed by the 'Teatro que Cura Association', through a team composed of professionals from different areas such as psychology, pedagogy, theater and psychoscenic therapy, and will be carried out at the Casa de la Juventud in Arrecife.
The action includes a total of five sessions of two and a half hours each, in which, through a psychoscenic approach, theatrical performance and dramatization will be used to encourage student interaction and promote experiential learning of the topics covered.
Each session will be performed by an actor and an actress, who will represent everyday situations of a young couple's relationship in which behaviors of control and psychological dominance are present, and a therapist-conductor who will guide these sessions.
In this case, special emphasis will be placed on raising awareness of this problem among young people, using the representation of everyday situations that occur in relationships as a resource.
Also, this year a specific session will be incorporated for teachers and families, which will take place on November 15 from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
The project will conclude with the preparation of a final report, which will include qualitative and quantitative data of the responses given by both students and teachers and families after their participation in the project.
