Alfredo Kraus was once again present in the hearts and memories of those who knew and admired him in a charity concert to benefit Cáritas Parroquiales de Arrecife, which took place this Friday night in the Theater Hall of the Multicines Atlántida.
For the second consecutive year, the organization, with the Lanzarote tenor Pancho Corujo at the helm, had to hang the "No tickets" sign. Ten of the best bel canto performers from the Canary Islands and the peninsula, some already renowned with consolidated careers and others who are beginning to take their first steps in opera, joined together to remember through their music the man who opened the borders of the Canary Islands to opera, the maestro Alfredo Kraus.
A unique concert in the Canary Islands and, "without a doubt, one of the most anticipated of the year," said during the presentation the Councilor for Tourism and Culture of the Arrecife City Council, Rafael Juan González, which coincided with the sixteenth anniversary of the disappearance of one of the most universal Canarians.
The tenor's children also enjoyed the concert
Among those attending the event was the family of the honoree. Two of his children, Alfredo and Rosa, received gifts from the hand of the mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo, and the first deputy mayor, Rafael Juan González, who thanked both for their presence and for the support of the Kraus surname to the event, which, as they emphasized, "is a guarantee of success".
Both agreed in pointing out that Alfredo Kraus could not have been given a better tribute than the one offered by those who have decided to follow his path and in emphasizing that Arrecife is growing touristically and culturally "and deserves events of this magnitude".
Both the mayor and the Councilor for Tourism and Culture also highlighted in their words the solidarity nature of the concert and thanked the collaboration of all the attendees, since the proceeds from the tickets were for Cáritas Parroquiales de Arrecife, which will allocate it to alleviate the needs that many families on the island are going through.
