The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has suspended the trial scheduled to be held this week in Lanzarote against the accused of participating in a gang rape during the Costa Teguise Carnival of 2024.
The events date back to the early morning of March 3, 2024, coinciding with the early morning of Carnival Sunday in the tourist town. As the Public Prosecutor's Office has stated in its indictment, the accused S.S. was working in a fast-food establishment in the tourist town, located on Avenida Islas Canarias.The accused S.S. allegedly met the victim at the aforementioned establishment. She was in town celebrating Carnival festivities.
The Prosecutor's Office accuses S.S. of allegedly sexually assaulting the woman, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, along with two other unidentified men.
The accused entered provisional prison on March 12, 2024. The Prosecutor's Office is requesting **twelve years in prison** for him for the commission of a sexual assault offense, as well as ten years of supervised release during which he will undergo sexual education courses, a ban from working in jobs that involve regular contact with minors for twenty years. To this is added the prohibition of approaching the victim by any means for thirteen years.
Finally, the Prosecutor's Office requests that he compensate the victim with 30,000 euros for civil liability.
