The PSOE of Lanzarote has celebrated the recent ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) that confirms the denial of the extraordinary extension requested by the company Yaizatún to continue with the production of gilthead seabream and sea bass in the municipality of Yaiza. The judicial decision supports the action carried out by the Cabildo during the Presidency of María Dolores Corujo, which in 2023 definitively removed the marine cages installed in a prohibited area of the south of the island.

"Today, justice confirms what we defended firmly and with conviction from day one: the coast of Lanzarote cannot be at the service of private interests, but rather at the service of the general interest. This ruling supports the courage and coherence of a decision that was not easy, but it was the right one," said María Dolores Corujo, island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and deputy in Congress.

Corujo emphasized that "the defense of the coastline and the sustainable management of the marine space were essential pillars of the island model that she promoted during her time at the head of the Cabildo." "We acted rigorously, protected by technical and legal reports, and with a clear commitment: to protect the marine environment of Lanzarote against models that do not respect either the legality or the environmental values of this island," she said.

The PSOE of Lanzarote also values "the technical work and institutional involvement of the Yaiza City Council, which acted with responsibility and coherence at all times, providing the necessary reports and allegations to guarantee the protection of the coastline." They also highlight the "collaboration and coordination with the mayor, Óscar Noda, whose impulse was decisive in achieving a fair resolution adjusted to the law." "The coordination between administrations was key to achieving this result that justice ratifies today and will always be key to achieving collective achievements," they emphasize from the PSOE.

The socialist party highlights that "this ruling by the TSJC supports the importance of acting with vision, courage, and institutional responsibility, prioritizing sustainability, the coexistence of uses, and the defense of the public interest."

"Lanzarote cannot continue to pay the consequences of a policy of faits accomplis. This island needs leaders who believe in planning, legality, and the defense of the common good. That is what we did, and now the justice system ratifies it," Corujo concluded.
