A total of 715 people, preferably unemployed, will receive training in the construction sector in the Canary Islands thanks to an agreement between the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) and the delegations of the Labor Foundation of Construction (FLC), which brings together unions and employers. Sources from the employers' association have confirmed to La Voz that several of the 36 courses announced will take place in Lanzarote.

The construction sector currently has a strong shortage of professionals, since for every hundred retirements, an average of six workers are joining. The courses will focus on the most demanded trades in the sector such as masonry or painting, applying new work methodologies and the latest materials. The training will have the collaboration of manufacturers and experts who will give demonstrations to the students and bring them closer to the latest developments in the sector.

The Minister of Employment, Elena Máñez, who is in charge of the SCE, explained that construction is one of the most resilient sectors and praised "the continued effort of the Labor Foundation of Construction to always provide updated training and renew a sector in full transformation, which offers enormous appeal to generate quality employment."

María de la Salud Gil, president of the FLC in the province of Las Palmas, pointed out that this project, named Construye-T, "is a great opportunity to join a sector with a good collective agreement and that is no longer the one about which there were so many prejudices, but one that advances in its transformation, with more technologies and jobs outside the work itself each time."

Experts in sustainable construction

The investment will be 2 million euros, charged to the Comprehensive Employment Plan of the Canary Islands, with which courses will be taught that respond to the needs of the sector that have been detected from the Foundation in both provinces and cover from training on new materials, to the latest technologies applied to construction.

In addition, the acquisition of digital skills of workers and their specialization in the field of rehabilitation and sustainable construction will be implemented, such as the placement of thermal insulation systems on the outside (SATE) or the installation of ventilated facades, for which training specialties are included that respond to these needs.

The recipients of the project will be preferably unemployed people, registered in the employment offices, although a maximum of 30% of employed people will be admitted. Among the people who meet the requirements to participate in the project, priority will be given to young people under 30 years of age; long-term unemployed; people over 45 years of age; people with recognized disabilities equal to or greater than 33% and women victims of gender violence.
